Check Out What’s Next for FunimationNow

Funimation Now 2016 Logotype Purple

This year has been all about giving Funimation fans who like to stream their anime the most extraordinary experience we can. We started out in January with a new logo and a new name for our streaming service: FunimationNow. Since then we’ve been constantly rolling out new changes, and we’ve got a big slate of announcements to share with you!

In March we released all new mobile apps for iOS, Android, Kindle and Windows 10. Many of you have downloaded the new apps, and we appreciate all the love and feedback you’ve sent our way. More updates and upgrades are coming to the mobile apps every day, so make sure you’re always watching on the latest versions. And, if you’re going to meet us at a con, make sure you download your app and log in, because we’re going to have special rewards for fans who show us they’re FunimationNow subscribers!  Also in March, we launched the beta site for FunimationNow in the UK. We’re so excited to welcome a whole new group of fans to Funimation, and we want to thank everyone who has shared their fandom with us from across the pond!

Coming up next we’ve got two more FunimationNow apps to release, with Amazon Fire TV coming in a few weeks, and Apple TV in June (both in the US and the UK). We’re excited to move to the big screen for anime fans by bringing the first ever anime streaming app to Amazon Fire TV and on tvOS for the new Apple TV! Add that to the broadcast dubs of great shows like My Hero Academia and And you thought there was never a girl online? coming out, and you’re going to need to schedule some serious anime couch time.

In September, we’ll be launching a totally re-imagined website, with an incredible experience for desktop users of FunimationNow. Get ready to share your favorite clips with your friends, shop for new merchandise, and post to our forums — all while you’re watching. This is coming out later than we planned, but there’s a really good reason: we’re re-encoding our massive library to show each video in its best possible picture quality AND switching from hard to soft subtitles. When we launch in September, over half of our catalog will be using soft subtitles, and we expect to have everything converted by the end of this year. That’s right: no more hard-sub picture quality issues anymore! Plus, you’ll be able to turn subtitles off and watch with just the Japanese audio if you speak that language (or if you’re learning!).

September will also see new apps for all the consoles we support: Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We’re also proud to announce we’re adding the PS Vita to our lineup, so fans will have a whole new handheld way to watch their favorite shows. We know a lot of you will ask about Nintendo devices, and we’re researching what we can do with our new platform to release on the Wii U or 3DS – we should have more updates on that soon.

Watching your favorite anime anytime and anywhere has never been easier – and it’s about to get even better on FunimationNow. Thanks for all your support so far, and we can’t wait for the weeks ahead!

Time To Celebrate – Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day! Anime has a whole range of parenthood, but it also has quite a few examples of great parents. Here are only a few examples of great mothers in no particular order. As always, there may be some spoilers in trying to explain why they’re great, so be warned. Many of these shows/movies can be found on Funimation.com!

Inko Midoriya

Deku’s Mom – My Hero Academia

Any kid in sports or other dangerous activity knows how doting moms can be. Imagine how much worse it can be when everyone is a super-powered mutant and your baby isn’t! But Inko from My Hero Academia is great as she pushes her son to achieve his dream even as he tries to find his own (danger-filled) path to becoming a hero.

My Hero Academia Mom

Sanae Furukawa

Nagisa’s Mom – Clannad

Although her cooking isn’t the best and at times she gets a bit too sensitive, she easily is one of the best anime moms as she is the beacon of support that everyone goes to whether that’s immediate family, extended family, and even friends of family!

Bell-mére

Nami’s Adoptive Mom – One Piece

After finding a baby Nami and her sister Nojiko on a war torn battlefield, this woman adopted both girls to become tough ladies that learned how to hold their own. Her story brings forth one of the most emotional backstories for One Piece.

Ur

Gray and Lyon’s Adoptive Mom (and Ultear’s Real) Mom – Fairy Tail

At first glance, Ur doesn’t seem too caring as she trains her pupils pretty hard and could even seem neglectful depending on who you talk to. However, once you understand her past and the sacrifices she made not only for her children but for all people who live in Fairy Tail‘s world, you will see how magnanimous this woman is.

Erina Pendleton

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency

The amount of love this woman spans generations (haaaa) where she took care of her child and a adopted girl while alone, and she also supported and raised an unruly grandchild after the death of the grandchild’s father and the disappearance of the mother. How many people can say they have successfully taken care of 3 Jojo’s? Not Dio for one…

Hana

Yuki and Ame’s Mom – Wolf Children

Wolf Children is a great movie about motherhood that will pull tears out of any viewer. After becoming widowed in an unfortunate accident, Hana raises her transforming babies alone, fighting social stigma and learning new skills in order to protect her children. The whole movie emphasizes how far mothers can go to make sure their kids thrive.

Sachiko Fujinuma

Satoru Fujinuma’s Mom – ERASED

This single mom from one of the top thrillers of the 2016 winter season, ERASED, was an amazing mother as she constantly supported her son whether that meant helping him in achieving his dream career, helping him in solving a murder mystery, or in staying by his side for extended care-taking as he got in long-term disabling accidents.

Izumi Curtis

Edward and Alphonse Elric’s Adoptive Mom – Fullmetal Alchemist

Although the two protagonists of Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward and Al, have a mother that they go to lengths to revive from death, the boys consider this veteran alchemist a mother as well. Although her teaching methods were harsh and her temper was hair-trigger, she truly cared for the boys as she battled against supernatural forces to protect the boys and taught them the skills they would need to achieve their dreams.

Chi-Chi, Android 18, and Bulma

Dragon Ball Z

It’s hard to choose one good mom within Dragon Ball Z, so we chose 3! Whether these moms are fighting off the forces of evil or making sure their children get a good education, these moms are some of the best as they balance their often single-minded fathers and provide a very much needed balance their children need to become stronger heroes.

Who are your favorite anime moms? We hope you like the list!

Selectors are given the chance to have any wish granted by winning battles against other Selectors, but should they lose three times, their wish will be reversed into a curse instead. The main series, selector infected WIXOSS, follows a girl named Ruko Kominato who becomes a Selector after receiving an LRIG that she names Tama. As she and various other Selectors battle it out for the sake of their wish, Ruko finds herself drawn into the dark sinister world of WIXOSS, discovering that win or lose, there is always a price to pay.
