Music & Anime: A Relationship Editorial – Part 3 – Promo Video Musicians’ Interview

This is part two a multi-part, personal editorial from social media coordinator, Godswill Ugwa. This is an interview correspondence with the two musicians behind the sounds and songs of most of Funimation’s trailers. Edited by social media producer, Lauren Moore

Welcome to part three of Music & Anime: A Relationship Editorial, where we explore various connections between the two mediums. You can see part one here where we take a look at the soundtracks of Blood Blockade Battlefront and The Boy and The Beast and part two where we explore Yoko Kanno’s legacy as an influential composer. In this part, we’ll be speaking with the Funimation staff members in charge of making the music for the trailers and commercials we put out! The two members speaking with me are Music and Sound Composers Andrew Manson and Andrew Black who took the time to share their backgrounds and inspiration.

Godswill Ugwa (GU)- First question for both of you: How did you get into this industry and how long have you been at Funimation?

Andrew Manson-

I graduated from the UNT Film program in 2008. In 2010, I came back to the country having lived a year abroad and a good friend of mine from school who’d been working at [Funimation] for a couple of years told me about a job opening in an adjacent department. I applied and got that position working for DTO (Digital Uploads), and later video engineering for a couple of years. I had been writing music in my free time for various media projects since 2007 or so, always dreaming of composing full time. I’d done a handful of student films, short films, a zombie feature, web series, etc.

Fall 2016 – Dubbletalk Announcement

Hello everyone! With the recent (and exciting!) Crunchyroll partnership, you may have noticed that things have changed for the upcoming fall season: Funimation is now primarily focused on simuldubs!

This means a couple of things for Funimation and for Dubbletalk. First, it means that we have a HUGE number of dubs to choose from this season, and that some are happening even faster than previous seasons (as soon as two weeks)! It also means that, rather than timing shows to line-up with the Japanese broadcast time,  we now have more flexibility to launch shows based on when most of our audience actually sits down to watch.

So with that being said, we’re bringing you a bigger Dubbletalk season than ever before! As we announced on last night’s show, we’ll be expanding the line-up from three shows a season to five! And, don’t worry, you don’t have to cram them all in during one sitting! Instead of a Dubbletalk block, shows will stay in their current primetime slots, so just watch the episodes throughout the week and join Justin, Chad, and me on Wednesdays for the usual banter, fun, and prizes!  Here’s what we’ll be covering this season:

 91 Days – Premiering on FunimationNow Sunday, October 23 @ 9pm ET

Orange – Premiering on FunimationNow Monday, October 24 @ 9:30pm ET

• Keijo!!!!!!!! - Premiering on FunimationNow Tuesday, October 25 @ 10pm ET

NANBAKA – Premiering on FunimationNow Saturday, November 5 @ 10:30pm ET

Drifters – Premiering on FunimationNow Sunday, November 6 @ 10pm ET

• Dubbletalk LIVE - Every Wednesday @ 9:30p ET on Twitch.tv/Funimation

With the new show launches, we’ll cover 91 days, Orange, and Keijo!!!!!!!! next week along with the season finales of D.Gray-man HALLOW and Tales of Zestiria the X; we’ll then begin covering NANBAKA and Drifters once they launch as well!

A bigger line-up, means we’re covering more of the anime that you’re watching and we couldn’t be more excited!

JINSEI – Life Consulting Advice Column

Wondering how to get a girlfriend? Not sure how to spend your time correctly? Need some advice with something bugging you? Let the staff of Funimation help you out!

JINSEI – Life Consulting is out on Blu-ray and DVD and to celebrate we’re hosting our own advice column. Message us your own inquiry below for the chance for it to be answered by our crack team at Funimation. In the next few days, we’ll be collecting questions and we’ll choose a few to have the Funimation personalities answer.

Unfortunately there are some questions we cannot answer. We will not be able to answer questions related to the status of licensed titles or future seasons (stay tuned to the blog for updates!), nor will we be able to answer questions with inappropriate language.

Godzilla, King of the Monsters, has taken over North America. The limited theatrical engagement of “SHIN GODZILLA” was scheduled to close tonight but in the wake of overwhelming fan response, Funimation Films announced that the movie will be extended due to popular demand. A special Saturday matinee screening of the film will take place on October 22 in more than 200 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. In addition, multiple national theater chains will be offering daily screenings of “SHIN GODZILLA” in select locations thru October 27. A complete list of locations for both this Saturday’s matinee as well as the new daily screenings is available via a theater locator on the official film website.

Music & Anime: A Relationship Editorial – Part 2 – Yoko Kanno’s Legacy

This is part two a multi-part, personal editorial from social media coordinator, Godswill Ugwa. This is a look into the work of the prolific composer known as Yoko Kanno who has provided music for titles such as Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne

Welcome to part two of Music & Anime: A Relationship Editorial, where we explore various connections between the two mediums. You can see part one here where we take a look at the soundtracks of Blood Blockade Battlefront and The Boy and The Beast. In this part, we’ll be taking a cursory look- and only cursory since her work is so extensive- at the work of the legendary anime and video game music composer, Yoko Kanno.
