We sat down with Anime News Network recently to talk about the Kamisama Kiss Goddess Edition, FUNimation’s first Premium Edition release. In the interview, we talk about why we decided to use Kamisama Kiss as our first title for this type of configuration, and why simulcasts numbers are so important. Click here to read the entire interview.
Since the interview was published, we’ve been reading some of the comments posted by fans, and we wanted to answer a few questions for you. So, we went to our Acquisitions Team to get the low down.
Do we possibly have some Attack on Titan fans on the storm naming committee? Well, considering that the Winter Storm Names for 2013-2014 were developed by a class of high schoolers in Montana, chances are high.
If you haven’t been following the weather channel today, Winter Storm Titan will be bringing winter weather from the West Coast all the way to New England starting this Friday. The west will get some heavy rain which will switch over to snow as it crosses the Rockies and heads to the Midwest and Northeast. For more information on the storm, please check out weather.com.
We’ve just added another convention to our official 2014 conventions schedule. Rojas will be a guest at MomoCon in Atlanta, GA on May 23-25, 2014. This con is for geeks of all kinds so whether you’re into anime, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, or whatever you should check it out.
Unless you’re Jessica Simpson, or just make/spend as much as her, chances are you’re probably not carrying around an AmEx Black Card. But, at least people with accounts at Sumitomo Mitsui (a Japanese bank based in Yurakucho, Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan) can get a Black Butler card!
This special Visa card has an exclusive image of Sebastian drawn by Yana Toboso, the mangaka for the series. This promotion is a special collaboration with the Black Butler II anime series and enrollment is limited to the first 1,000 qualified applicants with an annual fee of ¥1,250.
We know quite a few Black Butler fans who’d give their right eye to get one of these cards.

Can manga be used to influence children into making healthier snack choices? A recent article posted in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior may have proof. Dr. May May Leung, an assistant professor at City University of New York, conducted a pilot study to determine whether exposing urban youths to manga with multiple messages promoting fruit intake influenced their snack selection.
Fifty-seven youth attending after-school programs in Brooklyn, NY were randomly assigned to receive an original manga titled “Fight for Your Right to Fruit” or a non-health-related newsletter. After reading the material, the children were offered their choice of snacks from among healthy/unhealthy options. Leung found that the children who read the manga were significantly more likely to choose a healthy snack.
The same could probably be said of certain anime shows like One Piece, which depicts the main character Luffy receiving extraordinary powers after consuming one of the legendary Devil Fruits. So the next time your parents get on your case about watching One Piece, just tell them you’re learning about making healthier snack choices.
