When Index stumbles into Kamijo’s life, she find a faithful friend and protector, and while Kamijo’s easily the weakest kid in Academy City, he’s got something else going for him: the Imagine Breaker, an unexplainable power stored in his right hand that negates the powers of others. Magic vs. Science – A Certain Magical Index Contest

Contest is now over! Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the debate between Magic vs. Science.

A Certain Magical Index releases next week, and we’ve got a fun little experiment for you. If given the choice, would you pick Magic or Science?

The world of “A Certain Magical Index” combines modern science and technology with ancient spells and sorcery. Our hero, Toma, lives in Academy City, a place with technological advancements twenty to thirty years beyond the rest of the world, and whose student residents wield scientifically-honed superhuman abilities. Title character, Index, is a nun of Necessarius, a secretive sect of the Church of England, and her mind contains 103,000 ancient magical texts that are the basis for some of the most powerful and forbidden sorcery in existence. Together with a cast of espers and sorcerers with amazing powers, Toma and Index have plenty of adventures at the intersection of magic and science.

Magic versus science, fantasy versus science fiction. Which side do you prefer? Based on your response, you could win a great prize pack of magic- or science-related anime!

Vote for the side you’re on, and if your side wins, you’ll be entered to win a prize pack. There will be three rounds, each with a new duo of prizes, on Monday (12/10), Wednesday (12/12) and Friday (12/14). Feel free to tell us why you chose science or magic and we may feature your answer on our blog! Also, tweet your reason with the hashtag #magicVSscience on Twitter, and we’ll retweet some of the most interesting ones on our account @FUNimation!

Round 3 results:
Magic 63%
Science 37%

Lucky winner: Ricardo G. (Auburn, WA)

So there you have it. Fans have overwhelming decided they would prefer Magic in the battle of Magic vs. Science.

Here are some parting words from both parties:

Pro Magic:
“Whereas Science is something tangible, something that can be explained, Magic is a bit harder than that. Magic is something special, something extraordinary, that not only cannot be explained, but just doesn’t need to be. Everyone needs something to believe in, some hope to carry them forward. Sure, science is cold, hard facts, but haven’t you always wanted to fly as a kid? To see through walls? To do any number of super-powered things some of your favorite heroes did? That is the basis of magic. It gives hope to the normal people, to those not dedicated to the pursuit of what they can only see in front of them. Close your eyes and believe in something new. That is the power of magic.” -Lara H

“I chose the Magic side for one reason and one reason only. The Magic side deals with belief which is a matter of the heart whereas the Science side deals with proof which is a matter of the mind. When one thinks about it logically the Magic side is ruled by emotions which are governed by the heart whereas the Science side rules with rationality which is governed by the mind. Me personally I would prefer to make mistakes because I followed my heart and did what I thought was right than do the logical thing and give up on my humanity.” -Michael H

Pro Science:
“While some think that one is the power of gods or demons, and that the other is the power of human will and determination, I think that it’s much simpler than all of this. There are all sorts of laws which govern the universe, and magic simply breaks them. But however much creative power it takes to imagine up something which can break the rules, it ALWAYS takes more ingenuity to create something which can have the exact same outcome while STILL following the rules. That ingenuity is what science is.” -Jonathan P.

“Science makes the impossible possible what seems illogical completely logical. Science is what advances humanity and helps set us apart from wild animals. Without it we wouldn’t be near as prosperous as we currently are.” -Aaron M.

Why we Love Tenchi!

Back when the only cure for an anime fix was a trip to the mall to load up on VHS tapes, there was Tenchi. Back when cable television first introduced this amazing new genre to American fans, there was Tenchi. The times may have changed since those good old days, but one thing remains constant–a true classic never goes out of style.

Which is probably why so many fans still hold Tenchi near and dear to their hearts. And, what’s not to love? Magical girls in short skirts, macho men with spiky hair blasting off to distant planets, and five hot alien women fawning over one young man–Tenchi Masaki.

The Tenchi franchise has spawned multiple TV series, OVA series, and spin-offs. One of the spin-offs, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, is currently airing Saturday Nights on Toonami. Fans can also look forward to the release of Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar next year. This will be the first new title in the franchise in over 5 years.

So, in honor of all things Tenchi, we’ll be updating this blog post every day this week to remind us all how great Tenchi is, and also introduce this fun franchise to a new generation of anime fans. But, you don’t have to take our word for it, here’s what some Tenchi fans have to say about some of their favorite scenes.

“The love triangle between Ayeka and Ryoko towards Tenchi is hilarious especially when another character comes between them and Tenchi. It also shows deep loss, rising to adversity, and never giving up. Plus cool powers.” (Daniel B., New Braunfels, TX)

“Tenchi Muyo is the first “harem” anime I ever saw and what got me into the type of anime that involves one guy with lots of girls falling in love with him. The hilarity, action and drama of the Tenchi series blends perfectly making this anime series an otaku classic. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of anime should never pass up a chance to check out Tenchi Muyo” (Mike V., Herndon, VA)

“It was one of the first big time animes that I’d seen after school, and I’ve always been into sci-fi/adventure (with good amounts of comedy) animes – so this show had practically everything I could ask for. Not to mention great characters. It also ended up being one of the shows that helped me start to become more social, and from that- I’ve had a great friendship with someone for the past 10 years –in part- thanks to this show.” (Ashley O., Katy, TX)

Well, we’ve gone through most of the Tenchi stuff we have, and to top off this week of Tenchi nostalgia we’re going to go out with a song. Or maybe four. If you enjoyed the music from the promo clips and trailers, well now you can download them for FREE.
Download T1 the official trailer music composed by Austin Black HERE
Download N3 the official trailer music composed by Austin Black HERE

And that wraps up Tenchi week! Don’t forget to pick up these Tenchi Muyo! releases to complete your collections:

New Release Tuesday – Is This a Prince?

Does your sense of humor border on the sadistic? Then you’ll probably enjoy this twisted new series from the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter. Level E is a series unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It’s Vic Mignogna in his most outrageous role yet!

series synopsis:

This extraterrestrial adventure follows the alien genius, Prince Baka (masterfully portrayed by anime legend Vic Mignogna) as he turns life on Earth into his own personal laugh track. The Prince has the biggest brain in the galaxy, and he’s also a sadistic prankster who loves to make humans squirm. Anime fans will fall hard for this nostalgic, ”undeniably clever” series that spoofs the television shows, video games, and superheroes they loved as kids. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll remember that thing you did that was super mean – but also super hilarious. (Don’t worry, you won’t get grounded.) So yeah, Level E. The alien invasion has begun. Prepare to die – laughing.

But that’s not all we have for you today. Behold the hot pink awesome of Is This a Zombie? No, that wasn’t a question. Available now on DVD, this hilarious zombie magical girl series has a very unique twist that will keep you laughing for days.

If you buy it now on you’ll get a nifty hot pink decal as your FREE gift with purchase!

series synopsis:

Some guys have no luck; he’s got no pulse. That’s life for poor unfortunate, undead Ayumu. First, he was murdered by a serial killer. Total bummer. Then he was resurrected as a zombie by a cute little Necromancer. That seemed pretty cool until she moved into his house, refused to speak, and forced his rotting carcass to do all the cooking. After that, a magical girl in a pretty pink dress used her matching chainsaw to chop his corpse in half. Luckily, the Necromancer’s powers of resurrection trumped those of the chainsaw chick, so instead of dying (again), Ayumu became the world’s first magical girl zombie. There’s also a voluptuous vampire ninja who thinks zombie boy is a pervert and a hideous crayfish demon who wants to devour him. Confused? All you gotta know is this: zombies, frilly dresses, demons, and more chainsaws. Pink. It s the new dead.

And don’t worry, digital fans. We didn’t forget you. Xbox is continuing their AnimeHITS sale with more discounts than Santa can shove down your stockings. From December 11th – 17th the following titles will be on sale:
