Ciel's out for revenge; he's out for blood. I'd agree with a previous poster and say that he is an anti-hero. His motives are not good, and neither is his goal, so I can hardly call him good.
Typically, when you have characters that make some sort of "Deal with the Devil", they do it for an evil cause. Ciel makes a contract with a demon in order to get revenge sooner. His "justification" doesn't matter in the slightest.
Lawful evil. He upholds order, but his methods are undeniably evil and self-serving. Alois is chaotic evil since he's just plain cruel and evil, without any regard for anyone except himself. Thus my own character Thomas is Lawful good to counterweight the two existing ones.
I'm new to BB and only half way into the 1st series, but Ciel doesn't seem as "evil" as he's supposed to be. the pilot episode was misleading (why was he throwing darts at Sebastian and Finny for no reason?) He hasn't done anything harmful to people since then without a good reason. In most of the episodes, he functions as kind of a dectective/crime-fighter doing the Queen's will, trying to put a stop to human trafficing, animal cruelty, jewel theives, kidnappers, etc. heroic stuff! he also does sort of unintentional acts of kindness like helping Prince Soma, putting up w/ Lizzie, etc. He can be a brat and has a lot of anger, pain, hatred, etc cuz of what was done to his parents, but his actions and basic personality are not "evil".
Ciel's potrayl in the first anime series is somewhat different than his potrayal in the manga(the anime's plot diverges quite a bit from the manga). Ciel in the manga has done more or less "evil" things to achieve his goals. I won't spoil it for you, but he is somewhat less sympahtetic in the anime.
yeah, he does get darker as it goes on. I think the worst thing he's donw so far is to attampt suicide in the season 1 finale as soon as Sebastian does his part of the contract in eliminating the evil angel that was responsible for killing his parents. why did he do that? just as Sebby was turning back into his human form, he let go of the ledge and fell into the water, nearly drounding and depriving his faithful butler of over 3 years of the soul he promised. yeah, evil! he also shot and killed a guy who was involved in his parents murder in the 2nd season, but I guess the guy kinda deserved it. well, the kid does get worse, but is he really evil?
elaine, you should use spoiler tags. Not everyone has finished both seasons and spoiling can ruin the experience for some people. If you think those are bad, you should see something he does in the manga. In chapter 34,
Spoiler: Highlight to view
while in a mental breakdown, he has Sebastian burn down a manor with dozens of innocent, trapped children in it. He murders dozens of innocent children.
He's also done some other similar things in the manga. I'd say overall, Ciel is much "eviler" in the manga.
wow, I had flipped through chapter 34 a couple months ago in a comic book store just to see what Ciel , was freaking out about in so many Youtube pics, but I didn't get the whole story
Spoiler: Highlight to view
didn't understand that he ordered Sebastian to burn down the whole building while the kids were still in it! I though the kids got out, and of course, Sebastian had already killed the bad guys.
yeah, that was really dark! of course you could argue temporariy insanity or even euthanasia, but still, very bad. I think people will have to read all the mangas, plus both seasons of BB and the extras to really answer this important questian. I love Ciel and just can't think of him as evil but I've hardly finished both seasons yet and have only read through half the 2nd manga, so can't really have an informed opinion yet. what do the rest of you think?
In my opinion Ciel is still a kid , considering his past and what not its clear that yes he is not very nice but because he still is a kid , a shred of innocence is still in him. His actions are a reflection of him being a scared child who has only seen the dark side/way of dealing with things plus. So what I'm trying to say is that he is not a bad guy or a good one because he is a lost confused kid.

that is so true! In Ciel's world, he is treated like and acts like an adult, so we forget he is just a kid! I did some stupid and mean things when I was that young, and I am a good person, then and now, and i was not so severely abused at the tender age of 10 . You really can't make a judgement like that, i guess, unless you were orfaned , witnessed your parent's violent murders and butally torchured just after your 10th birthday to really understand where Ciel's head is at. Having a powerful demon servant obeying your every whim could give anybody a real power trip, at any age. Ciel is a brat, for sure, but is he "evil"? that question is still up for debate!

oops, sorry about the spoiler! yeah, I've got to read more of the manga's.
