this show is really really awesome I'd say it's more funnier than Sgt frog i really hope they make a 3rd season for this show if you haven't seen Baka test already I will definitely say it's a must see.
If you all would look so kindly at the novels that this show started as, you will realize that the climax to everything is in the works by the author. My belief is that the anime is waiting for the last bit of content from the last novel to finish everything up in the third season. That's just my speculation; take it as you wish.
First off, the anime is hugely different than the novels. In my opinion, the novels do things a lot better than the anime, though the anime is nice to watch too. The biggest difference would be that in the novels it is Yuuji that has his own summoning field while Akihisa gets the ability to control two avatars at the same time.
There are currently 10 volumes in the main story plus 5 "X.5" volumes. The main volumes usually center around a scenario that requires the students of Class F to use strategy to succeed while the X.5 novels contain many small, independent plots that don't really affect the main plot too greatly. The novels have been translated by fans and can be found via a simple Google search.
While the chronologies are very different between the anime and novels, most core concepts are common between both media forms. The contents of one volume is about the same as the amount of plot covered in two episodes of the anime. Considering only the main volumes, the anime has covered volumes 1 to 6, leaving 7,8,9, 10 and the yet to be released 11 to be potential topics for a third season. My best guess would be to make 7 another OVA set and put the rest into the third season. The scenarios for each of the volumes after 6 are as follows:
Vol. 7:
Spoiler: Highlight to view
Summoner Test Baseball Tournament
Vol. 8 & 9:
Spoiler: Highlight to view
A lengthy war with Class C
Vol. 10:
Spoiler: Highlight to view
Rematch with Class A
Vol. 11:
Spoiler: Highlight to view
War between all of Year 2 and all of Year 3
My suggestion is to watch the anime first to help visualize what happens in the novels. There is a manga that hasn't gotten very far, but it lines up more closely to the novels than the anime. It might be a good balance for people who want to get the original plot of the novels but also want something more visual than plain text.

thanks for this. I have been looking for these. Too bad I can't get them in english hard cover. If it is anything like Haruhi Suzumiya the novels will be better then the anime (which is saying something as those are my two favorite anime) I can't wait to read these.
I may just be a baka but team ninami should win because I am German

1. Usually the anime catches up with the novel.
2. In the end of season 2 episode 13 it said "See you again".
I'm hoping for a season 3. There is a good chance for season 3 to come out. I've watched this so many times. It's one of my favorite animes I watched.
