I feel the series have different strong points. I love almost all of Baccano's characters, but I only really like two or three in Durarara. But the story in Durarara is much easier to understand and the plot is more interesting, while Baccano completely confused me and it doesn't really have one overarching plot line, just a few subplots. I thought Durarara was interesting, but I completely love Baccano. I hope Durarara continues to do well since it could bring more fans to Baccano as well.
I enjoy Durarara way more. I really couldn't stand how unrealistic Baccano was. People's fingers don't come off like that when you grab a rope. At worse, you get a bad rope burn, not missing fingers. it would've been better is the writer didn't see the need to make it supernatural based, by making people immortal.
The characters of Drrr seem more real and are more likable to me. Hell, what Celty is, she's a real myth in books, not something made up. The writer did research for that series. And you can even understand why Shizuo is so strong for being his size, as stuff like do happen, it's just a rare thing.
I'm more willing to spend $42 on a Drrr part over $30 for all of Baccano. I just hope Anipex brings us the blu-ray set.

I've now seen both Baccano and Durarara. I like Durarara better.
I hear that Drrr became more popular than the writer expected and he tried to pull the people back to Baccano.
Where'd you hear that? There are a lot of Baccano references within the show, but there are also a lot of references to other shows as well. (I know we're talking about the anime, but I have the Drrr manga on hand, unlike the anime) In the manga, 12 different series are referenced in one panel. A few pages later, there's a 4 page long Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji reference.

First off, novels came first, next came the anime, than the manga for Durarara. Baccano novels came and they made the anime, then the manga.
I was talking about how the writer of the novels didn't expect Drrr to become more popular than Baccano.

I know, but I've never had the chance to read the Drr! novels (and doubt I ever will) and it's easier to to skim through an book rather than a video. Not to mention I have one volume a few feet away while I haven't bought the any of Drr! anime.

I wanted to know where you heard that "he tried to pull the people back to Baccano". The only way I could see that within the series were the references, but that's a stretch since there are lots of references to other series in addition to the Baccano ones.

That and the Drrr manga is going to be coming for a while, but Baccano only had a full 2 volumes, a side story, and there was 2 years between those volumes. And personally, I think the Drrr novels draw in more of the females, which in Japan females are normally the ones that buy the manga and books, as they're the ones that normally stay at home and have the time to read them.

Baccano is definitely more entertaining though, which makes it endlessly re-watchable. And its dub is pretty amazing as well. From what I've heard of the Durarara dub, I think I'll be sticking to the Japanese when I eventually buy it.
But Durarara's dub has Crispin Freeman in the cast! You can't go wrong with good old Crispin.
i like both show but i like durarara more
