LIght novels are a difficult prospect - they cost more to translate due to the higher volume of words and sell much less copies than manga. Long series have even harder prospects, unless it is something super popular like Haruhi a lot of publishers will only consider one-shots or very short series due to the inevitable volume-on-volume sales dropoff.
