It seems to me most of those mentioned may qualify because their series goes on forever so they have to get more powerful to have another story arc. Is there a limit on what point in time or is it just the most current? Overall most powerful, I'd go with the Lord of Nightmares from Slayers. Being chaos personified and making multiple worlds is the most powerful that I know of.

I think that Dante would win between him and Inuyasha because it seems that Inuyasha just swings his sword around and it is big enough to not miss what he's swinging at and Dante has actual skill and would just piss Inuyasha off and kick his ass while he's too mad to fight properly.
Also, on a side note, who would win between Alucard from Hellsing and Dr.Stein from Death Eater? Because obviously Alucard wouldn't be shot to death seeing as how he gets shot up in every episode, but Stein's soul attacks might give him some problems if he has a soul. Not including deities, I would have to put my vote for the strongest with the winner of that fight.
