Shows you'd like to see licensed by FUNimation

Everyone has a favourite show (or two, or ten) they'd like to see released on DVD in North America. There are no promises, but feel free to promote your favourite titles here. Nobody wants to read through a list as long as their arm so even if you have built up long wishlist, try to keep it down to a few absolute must haves - and tell us what you feel makes them so great!

Obviously there's no need to request something FUNimation has picked up already so remember to check first:

The big list of all FUNimation's current titles
FUNimation on Anime News Network's Encyclopedia
Unreleased FUNimation Licenses (via Fandom Post)

If another North American company has already licensed it then FUNimation won't be able to get it (and this unfortunately includes shows that have been released sub-only which you want FUNimation to dub) so there is again no need to list them unless the license has expired (e.g. former Geneon USA titles that FUNimation hasn't rescued yet). Searching the the title on ANN will normally reveal this sort of information.

Also note that FUNimation do not themselves create anime, so please only suggest titles that already exist (e.g. do not ask for a second series of Fruits Basket or a sequel to Vandread) - again, you can check ANN if you are unsure.

Shows that are currently only licensed for simulcast streaming are also eligible (although for FUNimation's own simulcast titles you should create a topic in that show's forum) - another company having streaming rights might make them less likely to be picked up but it doesn't hurt to ask, especially if the stream has an expiry date, which is common for Kadokawa titles.

There are some titles which FUNimation has, for various reasons, regrettably dropped or decided not to continue releasing further episodes of. Please do not ask about these titles here, but if you want to campaign for them do so in the relevant show forums. Currently these titles/franchises include:

Big Windup (aka Ookiku Furikabutte/Oofuri)
Case Closed TV (aka Detective Conan; note this does not necessarily extend to movies/specials)
The Familiar of Zero (aka Zero no Tsukaima)
Kodocha (aka Kodomo no Omocha)
When they Cry (aka Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, including sequels and related titles like Umineko)

Re: Shows you'd like to see licensed by FUNimation

I've noticed that a fair bit of what I'd like to see is actually getting picked up, so my list is rather small at the moment.

  • Bakemonogatari (I've heard that licensing is hung up on Kizumonogatari for some reason, but still...)
  • Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (Someone really needs to pick up the manga at least)
  • Seitokai Yakuindomo
  • Seitokai no Ichizon
  • Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru

i would very much like to see Funimation to license the anime, NO. 6, it has a intersesting and promising storyline thus far from what i have seen of both the manga and the anime and would make a worthy addition to FUNI

If I may add to the list of growing wishes of series I want Funimation to license: Legend of Legendary Heroes would be an awesome license expansion. I feel that it would do well with a dub.

1. Natsume Yujin-cho needs a high quality blu ray release in R1.
I find it ridiculous that a show this good has still not been licensed when so many other series that are admittedly mediocre at best are licensed. It's good enough to have made it 3 seasons now, has a good following for the manga and has a high percentage rate of streaming numbers over at CR when it's season is going on. Just look at the ratings it has on ANN's encyclopedia, an 8.49 which gives it a ranking of 184 out of 4916. Sure its not scientifically accurate polling, but it is obviously a well regarded series to be rated in the top 96th percentile. I can't even import it (trust me I was willing to pay the hundreds of dollars to get it) because the JP blu has no subtitles.

2. Eve no Jikan ONA (Time of EVE) also needs a blu ray release
This series is also highly rated, has beautiful artwork and a thought provoking insightful story.

3. Nichijou (My Ordinary Life)
This series is hilarious, and has almost now supplanted Gintama in my mind as the funniest series I've seen. The animation is also superb, Kyoto Animation Studio has really done well with it.

- Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy

It's a funny and action filled Shonen series and people who enjoy shows like Dragon Ball and One Piece should love it! :D

- Kinnikuman

A much older anime, but still holds up to today's action anime and is the series that spawned Ultimate Muscle. Fans of comedic and/or fighting oriented anime should give both series a chance.

- Paranoia Agent

The only memorable horror anime series in my opinion. Funimation saved Trigun so they can save this one too!

- More One Piece episodes and movies

I know they are negotiating with Toei right now and I hope it works out. I'm just showing my support for the series.

Wow, they have those and yet Eva's still in the gray? That's a bit odd, but I'm glad I left it on the list.
