That's because it's OOP, and sold only by third-party sellers, not retailers. Usually when an anime goes OOP (Depends on many things though.), the price skyrockets. That's just one example of inflated prices. Here's some others.
When They Cry
Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box 2
Ouran High School Host Club Blu-ray
Ouran High School Host Club DVD
Sailor Moon

This is why people freak out when anime goes OOP. The prices can be just ugh, and the money goes only to sellers, not the companies.

Or you could sell it me.

Off-topic comment: if a show you want is going out of print- BUT IT IMMEDIATLY. The secondary market is insane. Something goes out of print nowadays and it seems like triple digit price is automatic. I've seen books less than 5 years old selling for $100+ for crying out loud!

Flashstep: they used to have ghost in the shell 2 inncoents on blu-ray for around 10 pounds shipped from amazon.co.uk(15 dollars i'm guessing) to the states last year...I tried searching for it but i guess they sold out. you can try other contries but just make you but it from a trusted retailer directly. I got my copy from amazon.co.uk directly. Managa was the one producing these blu-rays...and only their older blu-ray releases are region free.

Like DragonautFan said it typically because it oop. and i believe it also depends how much compaires are still circiling around the market place. Negima seemed to be oop for a while, but until the number of copies that were circiling around died down did the price jump up. (refeerring to the first edition).

@DragonautFan83 well to be fair the additional money earned goes to the seller a small percentage already went to the compaies because the sellers that bought it new:-p

Anyways if you want to support the anime companies, buy new, never buy used when new copies are still in print.

Yes I'll second the idea that if there is something you have any idea you might want and you hear a hint it might be going out of print, get it or you'll regret it. Look at the two Black Lagoon steelbook sets, now going for $149, Serial Experiments Lain box set between 200-700 new (although when funi finally puts these out it will negate this.) Also Kara no Kyoukai, I'm glad I got it when I did because sure it might have been $400 then, but now you really can't even find the R1 version (i.e. with translated book) and new Japanese version sets on Amazon range from $1100- $1300.
