Sentai Filmwork's July '11 Solicitations

Quote:
The North American anime distributor Section23 announced on Monday that its client Sentai Filmworks has acquired the North American rights to two anime series: Hidamari Sketch × Hoshimittsu, the third season of the television anime adaptation of Ume Aoki's Hidamari Sketch manga, and Orphen, a 1998 television anime series and its 1999 sequel based on Yoshinobu Akita and Yuuya Kusaka fantasy light novel series Majutsushi Orphen.
Section23 announced the following release dates;
•Orphen Complete Collection - July 5
•Allison & Lillia Generation 2 - July 12
•Hidamari Sketch Hoshimittsu - July 19
•Angel Beats! Complete Collection (DVD) - July 26
•Angel Beats! Complete Collection (BD) - July 26
Hidamari Sketch's story centers around a high school for the arts and the everyday life of four of its students.Sentai Filmworks also acquired the first and second seasons of Hidamari Sketch in October 2009 and January 2010, respectively. The franchise also consists of two animated specials.
Orphen revolves around the titular sorceror, whose quiet life is interrupted by the advent of both an apprentice and a young woman with a sword Orphen needs. ADV Films licensed Orphen at Anime Expo in 1999. Yoshinobu Akita announced this past March that he is writing a new light novel series based on the franchise. Orphen is already available streaming via The Anime Network, and Twitter user GenjiPress also notes that Orphen is currently available in Netflix's Instant Watch library.

•Allison & Lillia: Generation 2 - 325 minutes - $49.98 - 7/12/11 [Sub-only]
•Angel Beats!: Complete Collection (DVD) - 350 minutes - $59.98 - 7/26/11
•Angel Beats!: Complete Collection (Blu-ray) - 350 minutes - $69.98 - 7/26/11
•Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu (Season 3): Complete Collection - 350 minutes - $49.98 - 7/19/11 [Sub-only]
•Orphen (Seasons 1-2): Complete Collection (Re-release) - 1175 minutes - $49.98 - 7/5/11

It's about time they got Hidamari Sketch's 3rd & final season. It's been a year since season 2 (x 365) was released.

I'll be getting Angel Beats.

And since Hidamari Sketch is one of the very few anime I'll buy sub-only, I'll grab the third season of that as well.

I think I'll also get Angel Beats in blu when it comes out. Also kind of having to do with a sentai licensed show, although they do not have the digital distro rights to it (a company named a-net digital is distributing it) Yumekui Merry is up for digital purchase on amazon (episodes 1-7 as of right now.)

I have not bought anything really from Sentai Filmworks since Xam'd finished up and that has not changed since. It's sad because everything I used to buy was from ADV and now its once in a blue moon. Although to be fair, my tastes have changed in the last year so that may have something to do with it.

Re: General Sentai Filmworks Disscussion Thread.

I saw the first few episodes of Guin Saga (dubbed) this past Monday at the theater. I've enjoyed the last few things I've seen from Sentai.

I'm also curious what ADV catalogue titles Sentai/Section 23 still has (besides the Orphen franchise). It would be nice to see some of them get BluRay releases or DVD re-releases so this new generation of fans can enjoy some of the better franchises of the late 90's and early 2000's.

Re: General Sentai Filmworks Disscussion Thread.

Sentai Filmworks... It's like a step above Bandai...
They actually listen to their fanbase. They have
pretty much found a niche in releasing the SUB-Only
version to see how well sales go for the series.
Should the anime series sell/do well enough
Sentai has actually been going back and Dubbing
the series and offering a nice discount to
people who purchased the SUB-Only version.
(They trade in the SUB-Only version and
get XX% off of the Dubbed version.
It's actually a good deal, however, it's hard to know
what sells and what doesn't.
I have seen several series from them that appear interesting, but have hesitated to pick anything up unless I see "English/Japanese" stamped on the case. That really doesn't help the sales of the DVD to get it dubbed, but so far I have only seen a few titles actually get dubbed in this fashion... (Clannad plus Clannad After Story just to name a few.)
