Also, still personally bummed nobody announced Sailor Moon or Mawaru PenguinDrum, oh well, theres always next con/next year. *knock on wood*
In Sentai's case, i'm glad because knowing them, they wouldn't dub it and because of that, it would be DVD-only as part of their stupid "No Dub = No Blu-ray" rule which would be a bad, BAD move for a show like this because it deserves a high-quality release here like it got in Japan.
Was that all that Sentai licensed? Out of all the things they could've gotten a hold of...it was YET ANOTHER fan service, moe anime. Really? Can Funimation and Sentai license anime once without the damned fan service animes being shoved into them?

Funimation has to pour money into an public relations ad campaign and blitz for each title, they need to sell more copies to break even or profit on that. Funimation also has low wholesale prices so they can literally flood the market with things. They also have limited edition, frills attached releases. Their numbers have to be good to be successful. Sentai Filmworks, on the other hand, doesn't play any of those games at all. Their sales expectations are much lower and have a better chance at success in the long term.
Anyways, I was okay with Sentai Filmworks panel. It was underwhelming to be sure but I'm glad to see a great November slate ahead. I guess I'd give them a 7/10 as well for the fact we are getting GotF on BD, CWCLV and Horizon s1 in November. The one who ultimately won this wasn't any of the anime companies, but a manga company, Vertical, with Gundam: The Origin manga. Definitely single-handily won the convention for me.

FUNi's also a much bigger company than Sentai is. They have a lot more employees to feed and a much bigger facility to pay rent on. For them, they pretty much have to sell big numbers in order to see any sort of profit.
I too miss the days when FUNi was more adventurous. We got some really great, albeit under-the-radar type titles back then. I still think their dub of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad was one of the best they've ever done.

Well Funimaton got Space Battleship Yamoto, thats not fan service, its a Space Opera.
Also, we've been over this Vata, for better or worse companies are going to go after what sells, and, fan service sells.

Yeah, whatever, I don't want to hear it anymore, "fan service sells" crap. They're sexist and degrading to real females and my respect for the males in the anime community is dropping.

Personally I lost pretty much all respect for the anime fanbase in general the first time I saw a pointless argument over long running shonen, also Vata, speaking of SEXIST, you yourself have acted in such a manner on many occasions, infact I would say your doing so now. And your hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me, you do realize BL/YAOI is in the EXACT SAME BOAT as Ecchi/Harem/Hetnai/Yuri/Etc don't you? There all genres made for arousal & pandering to the most base parts of the human Psyche.
Quite frankly you talking about sexism and degradation of any gender be it male or female, well, its somewhat laughable. If your going to talk about such things, you really need to stop and take a good look at yourself and your own interests and bias/prejudice first.
Now I can agree its sad that such media (potentially) out sales actual quality titles, but this is nothing new, in any entertainment medium base violence & sexual content sadly outsells more refined & (arguably) more well written series. Its not a pretty truth, but its the way things are more often then not.
But yeah as for respect, I don't think thats a word that really can be applied to fan bases or the internet in general these days, but thats a completely different rant/debate i'll save for another time.

yeah that stupid rule of theirs really bugs me.
I reject your reality and replace it with my own.

Not sure why Lance had to get involved here but it has caused a bit of a discussion elsewhere so any thoughts?
