And then hilarity ensued.
It's funny enough that he's referring to Arietty as a 'Hollywood' production when, you know...it has nothing of Hollywood on it...but it's made funnier for him to complain about the message when it's hardly the first film to have that one. If it's even in there at all - I haven't seen the film yet, and from what I'm reading it's not very present in the film.
I mean, I get annoyed when being beaten senseless over the head with some message (when I have a kid all those kid's shows are going to killll meeeee), but a little message even if it is there is hardly a bad thing, when handled right.

I don't even know where to begin.
Both of these stories, or in the case of Arietty, the source material, are not new stories. They are decades old. Decades.
The Lorax film has been in the works for several years now, if memory serves correctly. The message of the Lorax goes much deeper than an environmental message of industrial deforestation.
Now while I can see the arguement that many Japanese filmakers, of which Studio Ghibli is of NO exception, will try to promote certain messages in their films; it does not detract from the movie itself and can be enjoyed if you watch it for what it is.
Bottom line, the argument was thin and this was just another "dog-whistle" attempt to make something political just for the sake of promoting one's own viewpoint and bashing another's.
Thank you for your time.
Another example why the word 'news' has no purpose in the names of channels owned by Fox.
Reading that article literally gave me a headache. Yes, the Japanese cartoon based on a British novel from 1952 is a secret liberal attack by Hollywood on the 1%. Pack up the Occupy Movement guys, Lou Dobbs is onto us!
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember her, you are not alone.
That should make Anderson Cooper's "Ridiculist."
Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me if most of FOX's viewership actually believes what Dobbs said.
To repeat what I said on the ANN Board:
A pox on all the network "news" organizations.
Usually they think they already know the answer to whatever question is asked. Rarely do they take the time to research things, right leaning, left leaning or stuck in the middle, not when they sense controversy.
Ratings and Advertiser's Dollars ( or Pounds or Yen or Euros ) that's what matters most.
Bah.

Oh there are I'm sure, right along side the various conspiracy nuts and fanatics. There's always someone that believes.
And to think I watched Anime with my kids on Fox back in the late 90's.
These days I don't even look at network TV.

I miss the Fox News Channel. Now I can only watch it if I'm at a LifeTime Fitness club and Working out since I don't have cable anymore, But anyway...
I never thought about THAT kind of bias. Can it be true? I guess it depends on who your talking to. I never really thought about the whole concept of "Fair Share" in conjunction with animated movie. The first time I heard of something to this effect was with the Classic Disney movie "Bambi" and it did make sense based around with the scene with the forest fire even though I would imagine it was a detail overlooked by many.
Now "The Secret World of Arrietty" I have yet to see, but since you shared that article, I'll take it into consideration. As far as "The Lorax", I can see where they are coming from already from the trailers I've seen so far.
Once I see any of those movies, I'll blog about them and see how Blunt I can be about them.

And this is exactly why I DON'T watch any major news networks anymore. Sad (and somewhat hillariously awesome) we live in a world where you can get more reliable news on COMEDY CENTRAL (*Brohoof to my man Stephen Colbert*) over any of the supposed REAL news networks & programs. So yeah FOX NEWS,MSNBC,CNN...these are all things to stay away from for the most part.
Arriety is a beautiful film and anyone who would attempt to demonize it is either 1. An Idot, 2. Has no real news to report and has to come up with somthing to fill the time slot 3. Both 1, 2, and the fact that theres (sadly) no such thing as bad PR, so say somthing stupid and get people talking, instant win for the jerk that said it.
COOKIES!!!
Right now, America is just trying to graduate their children. Would they really be smart enough to understand any "subliminal political message?" And how many even know what "Occupy Wall Street" is?
"There's nothing a Witch can't do!" - Major Sakamoto
Hell, I don't even know what 'Occupy Wall Street' is to be honest.
But yes, in my experience, 9 times out of 10 when someone is playing the 'THINK OF THE CHILDREN!' card, it's nothing worth worrying about in the first place.
