Avalible Spring 2012, personally I can't wait. This is the best anime releated news I've heard in ages, D-tek, you continue to be one of my fav distributors!
There's talk that the license for any Lupin III title is very high.
So either Discotek paid an arm and a leg for this (and are hoping for big success) or the license is cheaper than it was thought to be.
If so shame on you Funimation. A dub could've been included for this great series (I actually finished watching the Green jacket series a couple weeks ago), but no "it's too old"
Not exactly, this is the 1st series from the early 70s which lasted for 23 episodes. When they rescue the second series that Geneon had then that'll be a big step to saving it (not that Part 1 isn't a big step btw but with how long Part 2 is, it's a pretty big risk especially since Part 2 failed here the first time).
Anyway while i'm not a fan of Lupin, i do wish them good luck with this pickup. Hey, maybe if this sells then they could get some more 70s anime titles like the original Cutey Honey maybe? I would have no problem with that.
I tried to post about this yesterday but that weird page 2 glitch kept me from getting to this thread, heh. I'm really excited for this new too, being a rather huge Lupin fan. Even if it's sub only, I'll take more Lupin anywhere that I can get it.
I'm glad to see Lupin the 3rd get a full season release! I remember seeing the series on Cartoon Network a while ago and I enjoyed it. I was thinking of buying some of the old DVDs on Amazon but now I'll just wait. :D
@VauhnGief: Yeah Lupin III, like Case Closed had a short yet sadly unsuccessful stunt on Adult swim saturday nights back in 2004.
Also love the scourge avatar, glad to meet a fellow Sonic Comic fan.
It's sad how a lot of shows almost died like that. I always thought Shin-Chan stopped being released due to poor rating on Adult Swim, but they got the third season now. Also, thank you for noticing that it was Scourge! XD I didn't want people thinking it was a Sonic character I just recolored!
Anyways, I'm extremely happy about Lupin! I wonder if they will get the rights to Part 2 and release it? I really hope we can get the entire Lupin series on DVD in the U.S.!
Demon City will make a perfect Halloween gift.
I do wonder though if D-tek is interested in the upcoming Lupin III special? How well did Episode 0 sell?
All Will Know The Wonder Of My Dark & Jewled Sky, When All The World Is Wrapped In An Eternal Lullabye.
DISCOTEK HAS SAVED LUPIN THE THIRD!!!

@NJ: Yeah, that would be nice, and maybe more TMS titles to *cough Detective Conan 6+ cough*
*Rimshot*
What a man can dream can't he.
But yeah, heres hoping the series does decently for them and we get as many seasons brought over as possible.

Source!
According to Reed Nelson, Discotek has both versions of the original pilot film and will be in the set.
