My reaction?

No, no, NO. Every time I think that AoA couldn't sink any lower, they go and do something like this.
First off, DAT PRICE. $150 for only 15 episodes, and they aren't even dubbed?! Screw that!! If you honestly expect me to pay 10 bucks for ONE episode, you're insane. And yes, I've already heard the "it would be a hard show to dub" argument, but in rebuttal I say that there have been other shows in the past that were hard to dub as well, such as Lucky Star and Cromartie, but they both got dubbed. Pretty well, at that. I'd say you either put forth the effort, or you back off the price.
Secondly, SIX DISCS?!?! Are you kidding me?! The show is only 15 episodes long. They could have easily fit all of that comfortably on two or three discs, without compression. This is a classic example of overkill if I've ever seen one. Just another excuse for Aniplex to jack the prices up.
On the plus side.... well... it IS pretty. And it does come with the character commentaries, which I know a lot of folks were asking for. But still, that doesn't even come CLOSE to compensating for that ridiculous price.
So yeah. Whatchu guys think?

Speaking as a big fan of Shinbo/SHAFT and the -monogatari series: it's a little pricey, but its hardly outrageous. Bakemonogatari has never been legally available since it aired in 2009 and fans have been waiting years to get their hands on it. Those fans, myself included, will easily fork over the $150. And that's all Aniplex is counting on. They don't have any obligation to make the series widely available or accessible. The artbook is nice and I was hoping to get a soundtrack included like Madoka, but I'm happy just to have it on Blu-ray.
As for the lack of a dub, I don't really care. The novelty of an adaptive script is an amusing thought, I'd hardly lose any sleep over it.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember Her, you are not alone.
For me first off. BD ONLY!. WTF not everyone has a bd player or PS3. So some of us get screwed regardless. Next the price. OMG!
I could get 3 titles for that price. No dub doesn't completly bothr me but at that price a dub had dam n wel had been done but obviously not.
Otherwise looks nice with nice extras but no way brother am/would I pay out for this.
I reject your reality and replace it with my own.
How is it any different than Fate/Zero, Kara no Kyoukai, or Durarara? It looks just like the Japanese version (which was $354.) Isn't that what they basically do is release the Japanese box set versions of properties (L.E. with artbooks, etc...) but for less than what they would cost importing them? Admittedly it is still more than the $50 Funi BD set we are used to, but that's just not what they do. When you compare it to the alternative it is still pretty cheap. It could also get a less expensive later release like the Baccano BD set did.

That's like 10 dollars per episode and 30-20 dollars per DVD. But hey, maybe this could help Aniplex dub this series and possibly outsource to Ocean Studios. (Ocean seriously needs to have some anime dubbed right now because of what Funi did with Shana and not making the new cast sound as good as Ocean's. -Shame on you, Funi-. I also would like to see you outsource some future dubs to them, though.). Come on, Funi's release of Lain will be of similar quality to this, such as the artbook and blu-ray restoration booklet, and it costs just about a third of Bakemonogatari's price. However, this is because Bakemonogatari's blu-ray set is imported and is 6 discs as opposed to 4 discs on Lain and that it is domestic, not imported. I wish Funi would start doing premium editions on their future releases, such as Hayate the Combat Butler!: Heaven is a Place on Earth if they get it.

And preordered mine a couple of hours ago. I love the release and am glad we are getting such a pretty package through and through. I have no problem paying $150 for a show that I loved while I watched it and awaited eagerly to get licensed. Release of the year for me, to be perfectly honest. I honestly and literally have no problem or issue with the release at all. I am utterly ecstatic to be getting it on blu-ray as well but that was a given, anything less than BD for this show is a tragedy. I can't wait until November.

That's technically more expensive as it is a 60 min movie for 60 dollars on DVD, where these are 15 25 min episodes on blu ray. So I guess to get really specific you're getting 375 minutes on a superior format for around $.40 a minute vs $1 a minute, but again that is a direct import. I personally don't think their prices are that bad for what they offer. I'm not saying I can afford them all the time, but I'll splurge and get them when I can (My KnK set is probably my favorite media related thing I have ever purchased.) I guess the way I look at it is the source material comes from Japan and the prices in Japan dictate what are going to be expected by Japanese companies. AoA has made a concession in their prices in comparison to what they are used to selling their products for in the Japanese market in order to try to sell in the R1 market. It might not be what we are used to, but it's better than if it was pay the import prices or too bad.

The release looks really nice. I haven't seen the show yet, but it is tempting. I've read that it'll be getting streamed on CR and Hulu, so I'll be watching it there and if I end up liking it... I might consider getting it.

I have a couple of Guest Passes for Crunchyroll. PM me here or on CR (firefly167) if you want one and I'll send you the code.
Got an issue with the price, just wait til the the non-limited version is out, that'll be out next year. And the BD are split up like they are because they're split into their arcs (so what someone has told me).
Still, the set isn't nearly as nice as the Durarara one. Get myself a lunch box with that release...while this one...just has a box to hold the cases...not really much going for it.

I can't say I really see any problems with this release to tell ya the truth. $150? Meh, I'm fine with that, we do get what looks like a nice box and an art booklet. I'm fine with it being sub only and really didn't expect a dub to begin with, putting together a cast that could even come close to the original would've been hard enough, but putting together the script would have been a nightmare if ya ask me and the amount of tweaking required to even get it to sound right would of been mind boggling. The fact that we're even getting this and on BD to boot is all that matters and I'll gladly drop the dough for it. I now can't wait to see this on beautiful BD.
Fu-chan Starfish Powers Activate!!!
I'm more excited about the announcement that it will start streaming on CR this Friday with weekly episode additions.
