@Neon: Thanks, and right back at yea, you sir are a POST MASTER!
And yeah I can't wait for the Sailor Moon Remake either, You just know somebody is gonna snatch that up *they would be insane not to considering how well the Sailor Moon manga & merch that have come over the past year or so have been selling*
And yeah Anime will always have some fad/crutch it over uses, as will all forms of media, be that giant robots or giant boobs. or giant robots with giant boobs?... ...OK maybe not that last one. XD

Thanks for the complement - but I don't work in a post office, I know those guys make some great cash, but I work somewhere else, so I'm not a post master, but I do like rambling from time to time.
As for the giant robots with giant boobs, they came close with Godannar, which was sort of a meh, anime, it was sort of like Evengelion on crack if nothing else.
I never did get huge into Sailor moon, I remember when it was first being broadcast in North America and how so many kids were watching it - I never went along, but a few years ago I watched some of the episodes and the series is pretty good, with this reboot, I'm nore curious to see what they do with it in terms of art direction, story etc. But, for the love of all that is holy, and staying consistant with my stance on fan service (ecchi fan service on ecchi titles where it belongs, consistant levels, and none on others that have no room for it), if they turn Sailor Moon into an ecchi anime I will never forgive them - it does not belong there, it never did and never will - and thankfully, I don't think theyll go in that direction, they'd have a lot of pissed off fans that's for sure. But still, cross your fingers they don't do that with Sailor moon - maybe even a prayer as extra insurance, even if you're not religious.

If they bring Ikuhara back to direct(Please for the love of Haruhi!), I think there's about -1% chance of that. Though there may be a chance of Usagi transforming into a car...

I have to agree with this. I was never a big fan of Sailor Moon but it was pretty interesting and I think that if they did turn it into an ecchi, people will rebel or something. Normally a quote used for movies(at least as far as I know) but I think it fits the situation perfectly: "If you're going to remake something, don't f*** with the original."

I'm sorry but WTF? That's a disturbing thought if I may be so blunt.

I think that's been done already. It was Candidate for Goddess IIRC.
What about that scene from Panty and Stocking?
Anyways, that's an image I'll be trying to get out of my head all night now...
@neonwalrus. Great post! I found it very intriguing.

Well, so long as the producers don't meddle more than they should - they seem to have a knack at looking at trends and what the "big sell" of a given time is, which is fine. THe problem occurs when they try to apply these trends (via market research, marketing graphs and charts) to stories where it does not belong. I could honestly picture the director focusing on making the Sailor Moon that the fans will love; then some pusswad on his shoulder saying ",so when is the obligitory beach/swimsuit episode happening? - you know, a lot of anime fans like those - and the bath scene, we need some underwear shots and booby scenes too - make it happen; immmmmmkay."
Then the director punches said producer so hard his teeth fall out, then he pulls out his hair saying",it doesn't fit the context of the show, if you want to make your money back, let me work!" Which is more or less the entire point of my longer post - it's all about the context and continuity of the series.
Anyways, if I venture outside of anime, this is the same sort of thing - producer interference - that resulted in Spiderman 3, Transformers 2 and a few others - Sam Raimi who directed Spiderman actually said about Spiderman 3 that there were so many more people involved in it telling him what to do, and when they're paying for the movie, sometimes you have to bite your tougue and go along - of course, this isn't good, look at how Spiderman 3 turned out; I was so disappointed with it as were a lot of other fans, and Sam Raimi, and that's only one example.
Then look at stuff from James Cameron, who pays for his movies himself, and he has a lot more control - great movies people will always remember. Then there's Christopher Nolan who does it his way and his movies are amazing, anyways, I'm going off here.
I think I should reiterate the point I'm beating with a stick here - fan service is fine so long as it fits the context of the show, and if it is meant to be a fanservice show in the first place, and if the people who are close in making the show have that intention, so be it (sort of repeating my last post). Of course plot, characters and execution are very important, they're the soul of the story - and these ecchi animes are no exception - at least, once again, how I see it and feel when I watch any given anime.
To tie it all together, having someone trying to add fan service to Sailor moon as the same as some ass clown disrupting the Queen's Blade crew telling them ",well, a lot of people don't like fan service, maybe we should cut it right out." Sure. The fan service on shows like this are almost characters in themselves in a way, I have to admit, they add a certain charm to these shows, and the important thing is to please the devoted fans of any given series.
Which is why, if they butchered Sailor moon by adding fan service to it, it would be the worst sin in all of anime. I think they'll be smart and do it right.
This post is kind of sloppy, more of a elongated, incoherant ramble.
And then, in the end....All hell broke loose...

I love fan service as long as the anime has a good story. Story is what's most important and fan service is like a little bonus.
