Berserk is being remade into films but how far are they going?

I watched Berserk a few years back and was fantastic from start to finish (and what a finish it was, only anime I've watched and actually wanted the main protagonist to do something horrible to the villain) and its being remade into three films if I recall, of which the first part is or soon to be released.

What I was interested in finding out though Is are they going to continue the story after the original series? Essentially the series shows the creation of The Black Swordsman from Guts as a child to becoming a man and then stops at possible the best cliff hanger or second series set up ever and then nothing.

I know the Manga has been going on for a long time and there is plenty of content after the first story arc and I'd love to see more on the screen such as the Retribution and Millennium Falcon Arcs. So any ideas or information on after the series has been remade to continue or is it a simple refresh of the series?

Berserk was a great anime, and I've watched the first movie, which I enjoyed, although, I felt it was too short, but there are two more left to cover the first season (the old series).

Anyways, to answer your question, I'm under the impression there will be three movies per story arch in the manga, there are three archs, so as it stands, at least nine movies. I know they have the first three completed in Japan, I've seen some of the trailers, but they obviously haven't been dubbed yet, but soon enough; patience.

Lastly, I don't want to come off as a dink or anything, but there is an entire thread devoted to the Berserk movie series reboot, in the future it would be wise to do a little investigating on past threads; mods around here get a little agitated about duplicate threads (at least you didn't ask for a Rosario+Vampire season 3).

Otherwise, good day, and that's a nice figure collection you have there.

Hi Neonwalrus, thanks for the info. I knew the first arc was being made into three film but I wasn't sure if that was it or if they indeed wanted to continue the story afterwards.

As for the Berserk thread, no problem I tried using the search function before making this as it couldn't find anything about Berserk and so I made this. Turns out just doing a search of the Forums now with Berserk doesn't even show me this thread which has it in the title, so perhaps I won't rely on that much longer hmm .

Thank you very much, I'm just missing Rei from my Eva rebuild set and she's getting very hard to track down since they never make many of these figures.

I liked the Manga alot better than the series, there is alot of stuff in the original animated series that was left out from the manga. The recent films that their making are cut down even more than the original film leaving even more things cut out from the manga.

I believe that they should have done a proper reboot or nothing at all. I am a huge berserk fan, ive been reading the manga for years, I own every single volume of the manga released by Dark Horse Comics (over 30 volumes, $8-$12 each) but I refuse to purchase a reboot if I dont feel like they did the series justice. Berserk is one of those amazing stories that needs to be retold 100% like the manga, in the animated series there were characters missing, scenes missing, and interactions that didnt make it to the animated series. The movies their releasing are skimmed version of that so you can imagine how hardcore Berserk fans feel about that.

I have to admit you make a point here; I agree that the first movie should've had more, it was only 77 minutes, it could've easily been 100 minutes with the amount of story there is. I still haven't seen the other two that areout in Japan yet, but I look forward to seeing them, I imagine they will be short as well.

I think these first three movies are going to be more straightforward than the original series just because, in the same way the Fullmetal Alchemist reboot - FMA Brotherhood's first 13 episodes were more condensed because there is already the original series. What I'm getting at is both these reboots make the assumption that the viewer has already seen the original and they're going through the material - not the best movie, but at the same time I understand their reasoning.

However, like FMA Brotherhood, once the series reached the point it needed to, it began to branch off and follow the source material - then it became more detailed, and slower paced. I feel the same thing will happen with this new Berserk series, I'm thinking that the next two sets of three movies are going to be longer, more detailed and follow the original source material closer. Here's hoping, but I am really looking forward to the next two movies in this first story arch.

Lets hope that once they get to the Dark Swordsmen arc that Kuri Puck is in there and that they dont leave out the skeleton knight from the eclipse event this time. I look forward to having the other arcs that werent in the original series finally animated (everything after the eclipse event) but if their keeping the movies so short I dont really have high hopes for the series, I would have preferred that they do a complete reboot with modern graphics and technology.

I heard/read about the Skull Knight being missing from the series (after trawling the net for some more info on Berserk a while back). Having not read any of the Manga I can't say on how faithful the series was but from the view of some one who had never read the source material I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've yet to watch the Film reboot as I'm in two minds over it. I know the animation in the original is old and suffers from a few "panning across a still frame" moments but it's old and I forgive it for that. From what I've read (and limited footage I've seen from trailers etc.) this one looks odd.. It just doesn't seem to fit right with the 2D/3D. From what I can make out it seems that the 2D parts are great and the 3D bits not so. Seeing as you two have seen it is it worth a buy or not?
