As an owner of season 1 on Blu-ray, it's annoying that they go and release both seasons in one complete box set for only $7 more than the price of the season 2 box set alone. It's kind of a shoulder shrug to those of us who paid good money to invest in Funimation's releases.
Furthermore, this only serves to water down the market and turn people away from the Blu-ray platform. Why should I buy a disc when it stands a good chance they'll come along with a better disc only months down the road. It's like I've gone back in time to the days when distributors did stupid things like releasing 3 episodes per DVD and charging $30.
If I hadn't already bought season 1 I'd be excited that I can get both in one set for less than the two individual sets. As an existing owner, I just feel put out.

It sucks but same thing happened to new with FMAB, 5 sets, $30 apiece average = $150. With me so far? Okay, now two sets come out around $40 - $50 so for a low it's around $80 and $100 for a high, so I lost from $50 - $70.
But I have no regrets.
The series was worth every penny I paid, and I'd do it again. Think of it like the movies; when first out in theaters it's quite pricy, then the cheap theaters then BDDVD - and those are pricy their first few months or year, then the price drops. Basically, to have it sooner means pricier, waiting, cheaper.
You want to know another kicker? Amazon is having a massive sale on animes I already have - dirt cheap, I saw it and thought, crap.
My stance is: there is no use crying over spilt milk.
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
The first set, the first one they put out, the non-BD, it was back in Dec 7 2010, and the BD was out in Aug 30 2011, along with season 2. Funimation and Sentai normally bring around a complete set in 1 to 2 years. And the set with both seasons is coming out in Sep 11 2012, so it was bound to happen.
Now, Spice & Wolf got an odd release, since 2012 is the year that Funimation started to make sure they did the combo packs and the art boxes to put the two parts together.
They figure, the people that want the show, they will buy the first release. They don't expect people to buy releases, even though they might be cheaper. The complete releases are normally on that budget.

I think that this re-release and others like it are targeted towards those who didn't get the earlier editions.

That, or for those of us who aren't as excited about the release when it first comes.
To be honest, when I first saw the trailer for this I was in a "whatever" mentality. Then this "complete" set has surfaced, that with some of the positive feedback I've heard about this show has motivated me to order it, and it's very low in price. You win some, you lose some.
When FMAB first came out, I enthusiastically bought them, and it was absolutely more pricy than the two sets they have now.

I've always looked at "complete sets" as in, those sets that are seasons one and two, as sort of an after market role in the life cycle of the title. It's already made its initial sales, and now to keep things alive and fresh, we get the completed sets. Sure it's frustrating when a show we've pieced together with multiple thirteen episode sets are finally combined into something a little cheaper, but that's the end result of the thing.
I actually got a little miffed the other day, when a fan I was with didn't want to buy a half-set of K-On season 2, because they wanted to wait and get it cheaper when it came out in a complete set. It was as if they were missing the point of the first run of an anime altogether. Meaning that if they did in fact wait, they really wouldn't be contributing to the show at all, when the sales really mattered and were taken into consideration.
New anime makes its money within a relatively short time, once its hit the street, and from there its value slowly starts to decline. Anime does not have a high resale value, unless its solely for the purpose of collectors, and the occasional rarity. So once a show get its complete box-set treatment, sure its cheaper, but its also past its prime, and past the point of really earning a lot of revenue for the company that sells it.

I'm not sure I understand the complaint? Is this just a general complaining over price, or is there something more to this? If not, I fail to see an actual problem, if so, then just ignore me.
Also, I have no idea if this post will go through, for some reason i get a lot of validation errors, so I am now going to type something completely random in hopes this post actually gets through.
