Some of the points that I remembered:
- YTV (A-DEC), YTVE, and a number of other Japanese animation companies banding together to form a new website (can't be revealed yet)
- Website may kickoff sometime this fall
- The idea is like YouTube with kickstarter
- Classic shows (particularly ones that aren't currently licensed due to it been niche/obscure) to be streamed and fans can pledge money to an eventual DVD releases for U.S. and Canada
- Won't be outsourced
- Giant robot shows will likely be harder to acquire (particularly Go Nagai shows); magical girl shows may do better with model

Hmm, i'm listening to the new ANNCast as I type this, haven't gotten to that part yet, but sounds awesome, i'm all for more classic & retro anime coming to the states. I like this idea.

This could definitely be awesome to see pan out. I can easily think of a lot of really great old shows I'd love to actually get to see, but I dunno how popular my own choices would be...

I was just about to post this!
I think it's an amazing and ambitious idea and I sincerely hope his endeavor is successful. I'd love to be able to throw money at old shows with no hope of actual US licensing, like Legend of Galactic Heroes. But I think the prospect of streaming and social networking allowing fans to support releases of shows with dropped or simply expired licenses themselves(I'm looking at you, Detective Conan fans) is absolutely brilliant.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember Her, you are not alone.
Oh God, If Case Closed is one of the shows that pops up on the site...I will nerdgasim soooo hard!
But yeah, listening to that part of the ANNCast right now, it sounds like a pretty fun idea, hope it pans out. If so come 2013 we could have alot more classic anime available for purchase on DVD.

I very much like the idea of such a site.
Unfortunately, one can almost guarantee it'd be region locked.

Yeah hearing that ANN podcast made me happy. What I found interesting is the guy they were interviewing thought magical girl shows would do the best. Personally I'm hoping for sports anime such as the remaining episodes of prince of tennis, hajime no ippo: new challenger and Oofuri Fubiaki season 2 (Though I know some of those are a lot more recent). There are defiantly some series I would be willing to sponsor.
You know, I suggested something along these lines a while back but with fans trying to set it up. This has much greater potential. (Though somehow I suspect English dub preferring fans will get the shaft.)
Having seen some crowd-sourced projects achieve stunningly good results, I look forward to seeing how this goes. Perhaps some of the fans who rarely buy will be willing to at least kick in a few bucks here and there. If you have enough people giving, the amounts given can be quite small and still pay for quite a bit.
English dubs rule! Spread the love, raise the profit, get more anime.
