Re: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Disscussion Thread

I don't think the dub is going to be nearly good as the sub, at least based on how it sounded in the trailer. I'm going to watch it, and hopefully I'm wrong but I don't think it's going to be good tear

Good news for those who don't want to fork over the money for Aniplex's sets, Crunchyroll has announced it will be streaming the subbed version.

@suicideshorty74 check out the voice actors on youtube. Aniplex posted mini cast interviews. you get to see how the voice actors sound in the show. For me they all sounded great expect for the voice actor for Sayaka Miki.

I'm hoping they'll release a box set in the end. For me the singles are not worth it, nor a chipboard-less art box for the le. But to each their own.

I wonder if Aniplex is regretting dubbing a magical girl anime over Blue Exorcist?

Well somebody is obviously still abit bumhurt about BE not getting a dub for the U.S. release. Although I can agree with you I still find it odd that out of all the stuff they have gotten so far that Blue Exorcist didn't get a dub, seemed like a no brainier, but meh whatcha goona do. Still no reason to belittle Madoka's dub.

No, it's just...a magical girl anime, they hardly ever do well over here. Because anime is normally aimed towards guys and guys normally don't want 13 year old girls running around on their TV screen.

I seriously doubt it. Would Blue Exorcist have sold better with a dub? Yes. Would it have sold enough to actually pay for the cost of dubbing it? Not necessarily. Shounen series definitely appeal to mainstream fans in the US, but there have been plenty that flopped.

Madoka on the other hand, was an easy contender for best anime of 2011, won multiple prestigious animation awards in Japan, it was a worldwide internet sensation, not to mention it surpassed Bakemonogatari as the highest selling initial print run of any Blu-ray in anime history.

This is an easy mistake to make given the promotional art(which is intentional), but Madoka is Seinen. Very, very seinen. It's intended for adults. It's written by Gen Urobuchi, whose fan nickname is "Urobutcher". He wrote the original VN scenario for Phantom and the original Fate/Zero novels, among other things. None of them have very happy endings.

...Right...it's still a magical girl anime. No matter how much blood and violence is in it, it doesn't change the fact there are little under aged girls in a series for guys to watch. If it was made up of an older cast, it might've been a different story. They didn't have to be little girls, they could've easily deigned the cast in the 18-20 age group without looking like sluts, and still given them powers.

Not to burst your bubble but ahh.... pretty much half of modern anime are under age girls walking around...most anime is teenage girls, all those ecchi that sell so well, teenage girls, harem, teenage girls, moe & loli, well quite obviously..teen (and sometimes tweenage *cringe*) girls. So ahh yeah..... Kind of....debunked that little idear yea seem to have there.

Not that all of the shows in those genre are like that but many are, as are most of the popular ones..so ahh yeah...don't really know where to go from here without sounding even jerkier so ahh....

Oh look a cat. *runs off*
