Live Q&A - Lightning Round!

Before closing out the first month of the year Rojas and I wanted to have another Live Q&A session with all of you.

FUNimation Live Q&A: Monday January 30th at 6pm Central Time

The last one we had was quite popular but due to the HUGE amount of questions we got it was impossible to answer them all. We are going to try and correct that this time by having the format of this Q&A be a Lightning Round!

What this means is that we will answer each question as fast as we can with a very short and concise response. We will collect question on YouTube for the first 10 minutes of the Q&A and then after that answer as many as we can from that group.

Things to know about this Q&A to make it totally awesome for everyone:
- Don't start submitting questions until we say to. We won't start the 10 minute timer until we are sure everything is good to go on with the live stream.
- Please only submit your question once. Since we will be reading all the questions we will get to yours as well.
- Spam posts will not be answered. Keep it clean and we all can have nice things.
- Keep your questions to ones that could be answered easily with a sentence or two when possible. If you want to know the complete history of FUNimation, we recommend to wait until our next Q&A to ask that one.
- You may submit more than one question. Instead of asking the same question five times, how about asking five questions once.

We cool? Sweet.

See you all Monday!!

ok here it is two game's tied up in one for any (Dragon Ball Z) with hoops that they thank of making this game of dream's. taking the detail of and world like map witch is key too this great game much like the game(Skyrim) but more even into space but i'm not talking just one world i say at less six.

I say it would be best to start the game off with Grandpa Gohon out looking for food and come upon a crashed space ship witch has a baby boy a wild child even throw Grandpa Gohon he could not control the wild child then one day Grandpa Gohon is out getting food with the wild child and before Gohon knows it the wild child try too get a apple an falls too his def than so gohon was thanking. form then on the wild child was not wild no more gohon named the child Goku.

three years pass.

this would best starting port of the story. Goku starting at lvl 1 the lvls going up too 500. after 500 a get up to ss 4. leaning how too fly and getting the skills for use of kie getting. can not get strong with out training beating the red Rabin, and not any and everything. to get better. this is only 1 20th of the game.

I agree with Jackson_H. For Lightning Round 2, I suggest putting up video on a Friday like last time asking for questions then the following Monday morn disable the comment box take down the questions that you can answer.

It was interesting to watch and I'm sure many appreciate that you tried your best to answer as many things as possible but here are some suggestions for improvement:

- Seems you were answering questions backwards, from the end of the cut off point to the beginning of the countdown? And also answering brand new questions (after the cut off) in between; seems unfair to the people who were eager to actually arrive early so they could post first

- Unavoidable I suppose but I noticed you did answer some questions more than once

- Maybe block off the live comment box? There's always going to be people late to the party who are unaware certain questions were just answered or that they're too late to ask new questions. This also reduces Spam.

If people want to ask questions they can do that when the video is uploaded after (always some other fan who'll answer them) or better just watch the video to see if their questions were asked & answered.

- Some of the answers you gave weren't actually correct; maybe better preparation is needed?

e.g. VIZ has the R1 rights for Tiger and Bunny not Aniplex USA

e.g. Dragon Ball Z Kai didn't end with the Cell games because that was Akira Toriyama's original vision, the series could've ended several times:
- after summoning Shenron for the first time
- after King Piccolo was defeated
- after defeating the Saiyans
- after defeating Frieza

Obviously the success and popularity of the manga convinced him to keep continuing but it annoys me that uninformed people single out the Buu Saga as "not the original version".

The main reason Kai didn't continue was it cost too much.

The seiyuu for the Supreme Kai (Buu Saga) was asked at a convention (while the series was still airing) if he was going to reprise his role and said he wasn't sure. Every seiyuu who returned for Kai was paid several times more than the first time for DBZ (they're all well known veterans now), but said he'd be willing to take a pay cut. This implies that Kai was very costly and would also explain why it was licensed by Funimation so quickly (Toei needed more funds for the show).

So the real reasons are: Kai was too expensive, Toei was too cheap (they didn't even reanimate it), the music scandal caused problems, TPTB were hoping Toriko (something new) would be a bigger success (not really based on lower TV ratings and reviews).

There's always a possibility the Buu saga will still be animated someday (InuYasha returned after several years). The seiyuu for Trunks is hopeful.

Just because Toriko "replaced" Kai doesn't mean it'll continue indefinitely. If the merchandise doesn't sell and the ratings aren't good they'll cancel it. If it catches up to the manga too quickly and they don't waste to create a bunch of filler (that people won't watch or buy) they'll cancel it or take a hiatus.

Then Kai can return and continue.

In the 100th episode of ANNcast, they speculated at length on the state of multiple Evangelion titles: the original Evangelion TV series had gone out of print, and the “The End of Evangelion” finale movie has been out of print since 2008. Given that the Eva TV series hasn’t been re-released on Blu Ray even *within Japan itself*, they were left with the strong suspicion that there might be much truth to the rumors that Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara (which makes Rebuild of Evangelion) is fighting with Studio Gainax.
Can you confirm or deny that Khara is fighting with Gainax? Even if they are, would this affect your distribution of Rebuild of Evangelion 1 and 2, or future acquisition of Rebuild of Eva 3?
Have there been any further attempts to inquire about getting “The End of Evangelion”, or has there been no change on that front in over a year?
If you *did* acquire “The End of Evangelion”, would you feel compelled to redub it, or do you feel it is too iconic to change?
Can you comment on giving no comment?: During any of your future online Q&A’s or live convention panels, will you be answering any questions about the current legal battle between FUNimation and ADV Films? Or would you like to take this opportunity to state that its too sensitive for you to talk about, so we should not deluge you with questions about it in the future?
When can we expect – in general terms of “soon”, “summer” or “before Christmas 2012” - DVD, Blu Ray, English dubs, and/or FUNimation.com streaming of “Deadman Wonderland” (which is already streaming), “Steins;Gate”, and “Croisée in a Foreign Labyrinth”?

I love these Q&As, I really do. You guys are fun to watch and listen to, and I think you do a great job with it. It's also great to get news straight from FUNimation about what is going on.

I just wish there was a better way to do the questions. I know you guys are aware of the issues, seeing as you made a plea to us about not spamming, but the youtube comments were still unreadable. I like the idea about live questions (especially because we can react to any new information you share with us), but I can't think of a better way to handle them. Pulling from your various sites at random helps a bit to spread out the spam, but it still seems that anyone with a valid question who is trying to follow the no spam rules will get lost among the mass amounts of noise.

I wish I could think of something beyond submitting questions in advance, but I can't really think of any better way.

My biggest fear is that these people ruin something that we all enjoy, and that would be the greatest tragedy. Stay strong you guys, can't wait for next time.

Haha President Obama taking a page out you guys' playbook!

He is holding a live Q&A Tonight on Youtube @ 5:30 EST.

But I don't think he'll get any questions about Case Closed and D Grayman as you guys will, lol
