For those that don't know already, Sissy did in fact make it through the official dub yet again.
At some point I want to honestly know how it went down with the translation writer staff that more than likely offhandedly approved sissy as a "proper translation" for onee-sama.

That line of thinking . . . is beyond words that could maintain a civil discussion if one were to actualy give a proper addressing.
To return to my original intent, I have yet to see some sort of honest response maintaining the claim to why "Sissy" is a proper transliteration to the phrase Onee-sama.
Haveing a primary character use a term that can be recognized as a derogatory expression in the English language as a means of endearment simply ruins the show.

I think they should have just left it onee-sama.
You see, Pronouns are the one thing that can be just fine not translating.. and in this case, it would sound a whole lot better.
I mean are the Chinese translators going to translate America as Beautiful Land? Big sister is an Japanese pronoun that has specific cultural connotations and therefor has no accurate translation. In a case like this it is best to keep the name onee-sama to keep intact the soul of the show.

I've said it before, but I still think this should be avoided unless a translation that preserves the intent of a scene is either unwieldy or impossible, especially with a show that could gain some mainstream appeal like the "Certain..." franchise.
And 'onee-sama' certainly has an accurate translation, since you were able to provide one in your post. Is this solution ideal? Hardly, but it's not the worst choice FUNi could have made.

But, even though I think "Sissy' is a really poor choice for translation, and it does diminish my experience of the show. I'm not so haughty as to say the show is "ruined" because of it.
In fact, I love the show despite that minor annoyance. And I really really want more of it dubbed just the way it is. Sissy grows on you.
And I really think that these people who go on and on with their imperious rants on how Dubbed is never good, should stop being such boobs. Watch the subtitled ones if they just can't handle it for some reason. I'm sure the original actors appreciate it. I for one think that the voice acting FUNI does is better then most American made cartoons. And though the translations leave a little to be desired, I think that is part of the Anime experience and something would be lost without it.
I think it's a good idea to take a step back and realize it is just a show. And while opinions and critiques from people like us are good... flaming, slander, bitching, and fanboyism diminished the weight of your critique through reduced respect and really just make it seem like you have nothing more important to care about.
Now that I realize I have been a complete hypocrite over here on my high horse, it is time for this rant to end.

It has an accurate literal translation, but it looses the Japanese nuance. It means more than its literal translation, like bro in English.
If we were translating English into Japanese, we wouldn't translate "Bro" into Japanese for "Brother"... we'd need to find a similar form of endearment or stick with "Bro"
In the case of "Big Sister" I think a more accurate American word to translate it to would be "Siss" or "Besty (as in best friend)" or something of the like... Sissy does sound a little weird and sounds stranger to the ear than onee-sama. But that may be because I'm heavily exposed to asain languages.
