I see what your saying Ninja, but she is really sensitive about appearances. Look how bad she would freak out if anyone had the slightest thought that she liked Touma or when she thought Saten thought she got her power easily. An even better example is how she does not want anyone to know how much she loves cute stuff. She takes that secret so far that Kuroko in the OVA accuses her of letting it drive her mad.

Does "oneesama" need to be translated? Leave it as it is. If it is Funi policy to translate everything, then I think they are making the best of some of the linguistic differences.

Having just watched the first episode subtitled...

Sissy is a timid or cowardly person. It's not a cutesy way of saying sister, it's just something they made up. I have never once run across it being used the way they are using it, only as a pejorative.

It's a subtitle, they don't need a multi-syllable word, and don't need to match moth flaps.

That depends on your perspective.

There's no surer way to make a word sound cutesy than by attaching a 'y' to the end. [Like using 'avy' in place of 'avatar.']

Do people do the same thing with the word, 'Sis?'

Maybe not everyone.....but that's....kinda irrelevant.

Subtitle or not, they're still going for complete translations here. [And since not everything can be 100% translated.....yeah]

And more often than not, the translation will be the same they'll be using for their dub script, which is also born of their translations. [Kuroko sure as heck won't be using a Japanese honorific in that version]

*facepalm* ... That's where it came from ... calling a boy a "sissy" was a way of saying they were acting like somebody's sister.

Having watched the first 10 of the episodes, anybody who comes into it withe misunderstanding that "Sissy means coward" is the ONLY meaning of the word Sissy ... really ought to be able to work it out from the context.

So, just out of curiosity, where IS episode 10? I just kind of blasted through all of the posted episodes in order, and got REALLY confused in between episodes 9 and 11, not realizing until later that 10 wasn't there. I looked both on my Roku and on the website, and it's just not there. It's kind of an important episode too... lol. Am I just completely blind? If it is there, can someone send me the link to it or something? I feel so unbalanced right now... woot

I agree there is no need to translate every word sometimes leaving the word as it is seems to be the best solution.
