My sentiments exactly.....I've been waiting for an english version release for ages but now this?
There's no excuse for there not to be a Blu-ray release....
Its Geneon, and there are BDs of Shana, Shana 2nd, and Aria all coming up on Blu-ray.....All of those are Geneon titles....So it's clear that Geneon isn't restricting it, it's funimation.
How long has Funimation had the rights to Index and not released it? well it was a long time, they're finally doing it and there's no Blu-ray
I don't know if this is any indication, but Strike Witches 2, which was DVD only at first, is now a DVD+BD combo. Since that was a Kadokawa release, the same could potentially happen with Index (but it might get pushed back a bit)
Isn't there an Index movie coming out in Japan soon? I imagine that's why FUNimation haven't been allowed to release the series on blu-ray.
It sounds like a similar situation with Strike Witches 2; a movie came out in Japan, boosted sales of the season 1 and 2 DVD/BDs over there, so an upcoming international release originally scheduled for around the same time was blocked to prevent possible reverse importation during a period of heightened demand.
Crazy idea but if you guys are so set on getting Blu-Ray.. import it in. Most Blu-Rays are now coming english subbed since Japan likes having the shot on the English money.

Thing about that is that importing Blu-rays from Japan is really expensive. Don't get me wrong though, if i could afford that i would do it.

FUNimation also has sales numbers from the first season of Shana and streaming numbers for Aria.
There is little data to show that there is enough interest to support the cost of a Blu-ray release.
They only recently streamed index too like Aria, although aria was streaming for much longer, even though they had the "rights" for Index before Aria.
And I would be confident in saying there's way more interest in Index/Railgun than there is in Aria. So why does Aria get a blu-ray release and Index does not?
PS: I would get get the JP BD of Index if #1: It wasn't too expensive, #2 it had subs which geneon-universal bds tend not to have, and #3 I live in a Region B area, and Funimatin BDs are usually region A&B

Unless it was announced differently, Strike Witches S2 was always DVD/Blu-ray. I pre-ordered it as soon as it was available and it was a DVD/Blu-ray LE combo back back then.

Too expensive, no dub, no reason a four-year-old show can't have international BD releases, unconvincing argument.
They're releasing Railgun in HD to EVS subscribers which means it's likely that will get a Blu-ray...but not Index?
Index is the main series, the series Railgun spun off of. I don't get Funi's logic in releasing the series this way and they clearly don't understand the way the series works.
i want that so bad but it needs a Bluray release. /cry
